I chose to watch the first episode in the Dollhouse series because to me this show sounded the least strange on the list. Science fiction and fantasy is definitely not my cup of tea, and I’ve never watched this kind of show before. At many times throughout the episode I found myself confused about what exactly was going on because it was so back and forth. Although the show was extremely unrealistic I found it a little bit entertaining. The part that I want to focus on is the “treatments” that the programmer gives to all of the dolls. The dolls are given parts of personalities from multiple people in order for them to perform different tasks for rich people that are willing to pay a bunch of money. Then, after the doll performs the task they go back into the room and their memory and personality gets completely erased. This whole operation that they have going on seems very unethical, and one of the handlers agrees. But, the main people that are running the dollhouse think that they are doing nothing wrong. They believe that what they are doing is a win-win situation for everyone because the rich people that hire the dolls get what they want, and the poor people only have to give up five years of their life and then they get paid for it. I think that it’s wrong what they’re doing but the dolls aren’t really losing anything. They’re getting paid, staying in shape, and they’re not going to remember anything bad that they had to do during their time in the dollhouse. I’m anxious to see what happens in the next episodes.
