Blog 35

I feel that I can relate to the topic of my commonplace paper because I am a freshman in college and I have seen first-hand what can happen to some individuals in such a small amount of time.  I fortunately have not been a victim of the “Freshman 15” but some of my friends from back home have. Many might think that it’s just girls who gain this weight and I used to believe that but recently I have discovered that is not true.  I see pictures that girls and boys from my high school upload on facebook and it’s obvious that they have put on weight.  I think that my paper will help people realize that this is a common occurrence but it doesn’t have to happen to them.  I think that my paper can provide useful information to college students and help them make wiser choices when it comes to what they eat, only consume alcohol in moderation, exercise regularly, and lastly make a schedule that they can stick to for when they are going to get everything done.  If people stick to this and make a conscious effort to be fit and active then they have nothing to worry about.  Although the freshman 15 or even the freshman 25 is becoming more and more common amongst college students there are ways to prevent it or if you already gained it there are ways to lose it.

  1. Going into college, people tried pounding into my head that the freshman 15 was something that couldn't be avoided. But by weighing myself yesterday, I saw I've lost 2 pounds from when I got here. So, yes. People should realize that being out of the house and going to college change their eating habits...but their habits shouldn't change in a bad way.

  2. I think the biggest culprit of the freshman 15 is all the drinking most college students do on the weekends. That can really destroy a diet

  3. Drinking. Lots of carbs there. I think that's a vital factor of the freshman 15. OSU is a pretty big campus, lots of walking. I didn't enjoy it at first, but got used to it. Decent exercise.

  4. I agree with most of you about how our eating habits change once we go to school. I know I have lost weight at school and I think it has to do with the food and walking. Also, I feel that the freshman 15 is more of an issue at smaller colleges becuase they have less walking to do and less activities to participate in.

  5. You should consider talking about stress. For a lot of people that I know, they got to college and didn't know how to deal with stress or manage time because they didn't have the structure that they did back home, and they packed on the pounds as a side effect of that.

  6. I think the big thing about gaining the freshamn 15 is that you need to stay active. Staying active, however, may be hard for some students due to their difficult class schedule. For that reason, I think the first thing college students need to do is make a plan to keep them on schedule with school work and activities. Time managment is the biggest issue that I think many people encounter.
